Some Irish-Japanese musical refreshment from a 2008 Ovation Channel program: "East Meets West With Donal Lunny"....
Donal Lunny lives in Okinawa with his musician wife, Hideko Itami, of Soul Flower Union...
The Kodo drummers host the amazing Earth Festival at Sado Island, Japan, every August.

This is great! Who knew Donal Lunny lived in Okinawa? He would have been a natural for the part of the Irish musician in the movie, Nabbie no koi (Nabbie's Love).
Okinawa and Ireland are v. similar re colonial history. Okinawan resisters (and coal miners in Kyushu) were rounded up and deported to Latin America. Traditionally, they're both incredibly spiritual and creative, especially musically.
Soul Flower Union & Donal Lunny have done a lot to support Okinawa but it's challenging to find links or videos to share here.
I'll check out Nabbie no koi. I thought koi meant "goldfish." :)
P.S. I saw this program on Ovation when it first aired and this was my favorite besides an ethereal improvised dance by Jean Butler. (Nieces love both Irish step dancing and taiko).
